he dosent do it to make richard famous... (his career would go down the tubes if that happened) he does it to get closer to the guys that drugged him. Plain and simple.

conan likes to take the spotlight from kogoro[richard] 'cause richard's a stupid drunkard and gambler... if conan hadn't been there he and ran would've gone bankrupt because of his "hobbies"... and anyway, conan is smart and taleneted [except for music... tone deaf ] and he's the right kid[slash teenager deep inside who's in love with ran but doesn't like to admit it...] for the job... he's COOL!!!

I think he helps Richard because he duzznt want his little "Girly friend" to get hurt during a case so he speeds it up a little so the danger will pass.
